The legal arena has never been tougher with the introduction of the Corporate Manslaughter and Corporate Homicide Act, which came into force on 6 April 2008. Businesses who contravene health and safety legislation have never been more at risk of prosecution, including unlimited fines and even imprisonment.

Employers are responsible for providing safe and healthy workplace conditions and the right systems and methods for safe activities. Employees also have a vital part to play in the equation. They need the right knowledge and the right attitude to ensure this knowledge is implemented. This demands proper training in the basics of health and safety, as well as specific training for individual tasks.

Health and Safety will assist businesses to comply with their legal requirements by demonstrating that members of staff have been trained in preventative approaches to hazards and promoting a 'safe practice' culture. Health and Safety in the Workplace - Level 1

The Level 1 Award in Health and Safety have been developed to ensure that employees are equipped with a basic knowledge of health and safety in their workplace, including the duties under UK health and safety legislation.

The qualifications need no former knowledge of Health and Safety and is therefore ideal as part of a company health and safety induction program, but it could also form part of ongoing refresher training designed to improve the health and safety culture in a workplace.

The qualification will suit a diverse group of students including those from large multinationals to small businesses. Candidates could also use the qualification as part of relevant courses being taken in schools and colleges.

Health and Safety in the Workplace - Level 2

The aim of the Level 2 Award in Health and Safety in the Workplace qualification is to provide candidates with knowledge of the basic Health and Safety practices that are essential in the workplace. This includes the hazards and risks presented in the workplace along with the relevant legislation, and ensures awareness of cost-effective, practical control methods.

The qualification is applicable for any private or public sector working environment and provides employees with an awareness of their own safety, as well as the safety of customers, contractors and members of the public.

The achievement of the Level 2 Award in Health and Safety in the Workplace qualification will enable learners to work safely and to recognize and deal with hazards in the workplace.

The Ofqual approved Level 2 Award in Health and Safety in the Workplace qualification has been developed specifically for insertion onto the Qualifications and Credit Framework with full support from ENTO. It is therefore fully cognizant with industry and regulatory standards as well as being recognized by The Health and Safety Executive, Auditors and other Enforcement Officers.

Health and Safety for Retail - Level 1

This qualification focuses on the importance of maintaining health and safety in the retail sector and the role employees need to play to ensure the safety of themselves, colleagues and customers in store.
